Dr Anwei Feng’s  visit to Yunnan, China 17 December -  January 2012

Anwei Feng in ChinaDr Anwei Feng was invited by Yunnan Normal University and Qujing Normal University, where Dr Anwei Feng holds a guest professorship in both, to visit Yunnan, China, from 17th December 2011 and 2 Jan 2012. He conducted seminars and lectures in five universities and colleges there, including Kunming University of Science and Technology, Southwest Forestry University and Yuxi Teachers Training College as well as Yunnan Normal University and Qujing Normal University.  His talks and lectures were aimed at a range of audiences from undergraduates to research students and staff members, topics included:

  1. Key Concepts in Intercultural Education;
  2. Thorny Issues in Bilingualism and Bilingual Education;
  3. Conducting Small High-quality Research Projects by ‘Language People’;
  4. The ‘Third Wave’ — Spread of English across Greater China;
  5. Culture, Identity and Bilingual Education;
  6. Reconceptualising Trilingualism: Insights from the ‘Trilingualism-in-China’ Project;
  7. Researching ‘Show Culture’ in Minority Regions;
  8. The Concept of ‘Synergetic Culture’ in Researching Intercultural Communication;

His lectures and talks, some of which were attended by hundreds of students and staff members, were very well received. Several students and young academics expressed interest in pursuing their studies at Bangor. On 30th December, he was presented with a certificate of guest professorship by Prof Li Xumei, Dean of Foreign Language School, Southwest Forestry University.

In March 2012, a high level delegation from Qujing Normal University is coming to Bangor for a visit. This will further enhance cooperation between Bangor University and universities in Yunnan, China.
