Initial Teacher Training at Bangor Top in the UK for Student Satisfaction

It has been all smiles at Education since the results of the National Student Survey were published. The College of Education and Lifelong Learning was rated top out of 58 HEIs across the UK for student’s overall satisfaction on the Initial Teacher Training courses.
Professor Janet Pritchard, Director of the North and Mid Wales Centre of Teacher Education commented:
“We are delighted with these results. We continually strive to achieve the very best for our students. The results of the survey reflect the dedication and hard work of all staff and school mentors who help to facilitate and deliver the Initial Teacher Training Programmes. We are renowned for the high quality of delivery of our teaching programmes. The results show a symbol of excellence in Education at Bangor. “

“We do have a distinctive tutorial and support system which strengthens a culture of close mentor supervision and personal support for our students. It is an approach that is especially suited for the requirements of our students”.

The National Student Survey 2010 includes the views of over 220,000 students about the quality of their higher education experience. Students answer questions covering the following criteria:

• Course Satisfaction
• The teaching of the Course
• Assessment and Feedback
• Academic support
• Organisation and management
• Learning resources
• Personal development

The good news comes shortly after the Teaching Awards earlier on this year which highlight the standard of teachers coming from Bangor. The Teaching Awards 2010 presented awards to two ex-students trained at Bangor. The Outstanding New Teacher of the Year, in Wales was given to ex-lawyer, Sharon Ray, Ysgol Gymuned Penisarwaen whilst Llew Davies, the deputy head-teacher at Ysgol Cae Top also won a top award.
