Information on the Flu Virus

The aim of these web pages is to help answer any queries that staff or students at Bangor University may have regarding the current outbreak of the flu virus. They will be updated as further information is received.

What is the University doing in response to the current Flu outbreak?

The Registrar's Office is responsible for co-ordinating general advice and guidance on emergency planning and also specific guidance on an influenza outbreak.

A Response Group has been established and it is overseeing the various elements of the University's preparedness plan and is monitoring and responding as required to the on-going outbreak.

If you have any general queries about the current outbreak (not specifically about your work or study at Bangor University) such as questions about the virus, best practice on control precautions or whether you can go on holiday or on business to particular countries please consult either the Health Protection Agency, NHS Direct Wales or the Foreign and Commonwealth Office websites.

NHS Direct Wales also have a Swine Flu Q&A which offers further guidance.

Symptoms

The University's Occupational Health Practitioner has put together a guide to Flu symptoms which can be found here.

If you believe you may be exhibiting these symptoms you should contact your own doctor by phone or alternatively seek advice from NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47.
