Bangor University: Information on Swine Flu
The aim of these web pages is to help answer any queries that staff or students at Bangor University may have regarding the current outbreak of swine flu. They will be updated as further information is received.
What is the University doing in response to the current Swine Flu outbreak?
The Registrar's Office is responsible for co-ordinating general advice and guidance on emergency planning and also specific guidance on the Swine Flu outbreak.
General advice was issued to staff and students in April 2009 based on the latest information provided from the Health Protection Agency and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The University is responding to the current situation in accordance with its Pandemic Preparedness Plan. A Pandemic Response Group has been established and it is overseeing the various elements of the University's pandemic preparedness plan and is monitoring and responding as required to the on-going outbreak and staff and students will receive further updates as necessary.

If you have any general queries about the current outbreak (not specifically about your work or study at Bangor University) such as questions about the virus, best practice on control precautions or whether you can go on holiday or on business to particular countries please consult either the Health Protection Agency or the Foreign and Commonwealth Office websites.

Background Information on the Current Swine Flu Outbreak
Human cases of swine flu were first reported in Mexico and certain areas of the United States. Other countries have subsequently been identified as affected. A list of affected countries can be found on the World Health Organisation website.
Symptoms
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal flu infection. The University's Occupational Health Practitioner has put together a guide to Swine Flu symptoms which can be found here.
