University Moves Towards University Title & Change Of Name

The University Council (the governing body) and the University Court have now given their support to proposals for the institution to apply for University Title and a change of name to ‘Prifysgol Bangor’ and ‘Bangor University’. The proposal will now be considered by the Privy Council.

The University is grateful to all those – external stakeholders as well as staff and students – who made their views known on this matter during the consultation. Although a variety of opinions were expressed internally, the vast majority of those who responded supported the preferred title, but all the comments made have been carefully considered.

Erbyn hyn, mae Cyngor y Brifysgol (y corff llywodraethol) a Llys y Brifysgol wedi rhoi eu cefnogaeth i gynigion i’r sefydliad ymgeisio am Deitl Prifysgol a newid enw i ‘Prifysgol Bangor’ a ‘Bangor University’. Yn awr, bydd y Cyfrin Gyngor yn ystyried y cynnig.

Mae’r Brifysgol yn ddiolchgar i bawb – budd-ddeiliaid allanol yn ogystal â staff a myfyrwyr – a roddodd sylwadau ar y mater hwn yn ystod y cyfnod ymgynghori. Er bod sawl barn wedi’i mynegi ar y cychwyn, roedd mwyafrif llethol y rhai a ymatebodd o blaid y teitl dewisol, ond rhoddwyd ystyriaeth ofalus i’r holl sylwadau a ddaeth i law.
