The research activities in the school embrace a wide range of interests, which are organised into the following groups:

These groupings underpin the school's research philosophy, whereby problems identified at the broad levels of organismal and environmental biology can be addressed at several specific levels ranging from the ecological, through the physiological to the molecular. These diverse approaches not only facilitate a wide exchange of interdisciplinary ideas and techniques but also promote informal and formal collaborations both within the school and with colleagues in other universities, institutes and industry.
