Chemistry's
Fund Raising Success for Children In Need
The Chemistry
Department succeeded in raising the grand total of £455.27
for the BBC Children in Need
appeal held on Friday 19th November. Staff and students took part in various
events throughout the day - including a raffle, fancy dress, Chemistry
vs Biology football match and 'Guess the Baby Photo' competition.

Raffle prizes were donated
by staff and friends of the department and the top prize of a one day
gliding course was scooped by Dr Mike Beckett (many
thanks to Denbigh Gliding
Club for this donation). The 'Guess the Baby Photo' competition kept
every one speculating and was finally won by Sarah Barnes.
The
3rd year undergraduates, bolstered by their fund raising successes,
ventured into the town centre. Armed with collection buckets and in
their full Rocky Horror gear they impressed the public and returned
weighed down with £150+ - a fantastic effort!
At lunchtime the Chemistry
vs Biology 11 a-side football was an entertaining game enjoyed by
players and spectators alike with a final score of Chemistry 8 -
Biology 1. Thanks to Biology for taking part and Jenny Amey for
organising.

The finale for the day's activities
came in the afternoon with a surprise performance prior the raffle draw
and the result of the baby photo competition. The 3rd year undergraduate
chemists and Dr Lorrie Murphy, resplendent in various costumes, performed
'The Time Warp' ably assisted by Jenny Amey, Catherine Bland and Erica
Roberts dressed in their best lab coats.
It was day to be proud of - well done to all who took part - especially
the 3rd year undergraduates who brought the whole day to life.
