The Role of the St David’s Day Universities in the Future of Community and Regional Regeneration in Wales

Three workshops will be held in three different regions in Wales, focussing on the particular challenges facing those involved in education and social and economic regeneration. The aim is to bring together stakeholders from academia, education, policy, industry and community and ask how the university sector can more effectively contribute to wider policy initiatives, including Communities First and Convergence.

Wales has a proud record of achievement through education, with our university system arising from the recognition that an educated population has access to wider opportunities and social benefits. However, it is well documented that, in the current era, Wales is falling behind other areas of the UK, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The St David’s day group of Universities represents a significant resource for the Welsh Nation, capable of contributing to social and economic regeneration, evidence based policy development and the future development of Wales.
