Young Ambassador

Chemistry graduate Jennifer Clark, 26 originally from London, has been
named regional winner of the Chemical Industry's 'Young Ambassador Award'.
Jennifer, who is a former undergraduate and MSc Environmental Chemistry
student at Bangor is now a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist
at Anglesey’s Peboc Division of Eastman Chemical Company (UK) Ltd. She impressed
judges in the North West England and North Wales selection process, beating
off stiff competition from other worthy young candidates.
The prestigious Young Ambassador Award is organised by the Chemical Industries
Association (CIA) and tests the ability, enthusiasm and leadership skills
of young people working in the chemical industry.
Jennifer is very pleased with her recent success and is eager to act as
an ambassador for the chemical industry:
"I was very surprised I won! You never believe it can happen to you!
I am really excited about the challenges that lay ahead, and hope to continue
the good work from previous winners in making a difference. I think it is
particularly important that this will assist to lift the profile of the
chemical industry in North Wales."
Steve Elliott, CIA Chief Executive, highlights the award's importance:
"The commitment and passion of young professionals, like Jennifer,
is demonstrated, not only by their dedicated approach to work, but by their
involvement in local communities, by their contribution to strengthening
public confidence in chemicals and by their consideration for the future
sustainability of the industry.”
Jennifer feels her time at Bangor has given her good grounding. She added,
“My years at Bangor really helped me grow confidence and develop as an
individual. The staff in the Chemistry Department at the University really
inspired me and enthused me to continue my development in chemistry.”
Jennifer was awarded with a certificate and cheque. She is now in competition
with four other regional winners from across the country to win the national
title.
The overall winner will be announced at the CIA Awards Dinner on 5 July
at the London Hilton, where they will receive a cash prize, an education
visit abroad and will be invited to participate in a number of prestigious
events.
The national and regional winners will become official ambassadors for the
chemical industry, actively working to raise awareness of how the chemical
industry contributes to society and the exciting career opportunities it
offers young people.
