Llion Iwan is a published author, journalist and documentary film director with network broadcast credits. His PhD examined the role and influence of the director and he has won international awards for his documentary films in Canada and France as well as the Royal Television Society in the UK. He was awarded a Welsh Academi creative writing scholarship in 2008. His research examines war reporting 2001-2011.
He spent ten years with the BBC as senior broadcast journalist, producer and director in news, sport and factual departments, working in both radio and television and is a regular contributor and commentator about the media on BBC Radio and TV. He was invited on the national jury for the 2010 Celtic Media Festival, and has been invited to return as a judge for 2012.
Research
My research interests are war reporting, practice led research – specifically the novel and documentary film - and the influence of the documentary and I would be interested in supervising postgraduates in any of these areas. I currently co-supervise the following research students in these subject areas:
- Film in Wales post devolution;
- Catalan experience under Franco;
- The Laundry Line in Film and Television;
Also two further PhD in creative writing.
