The BA (Hons) English degree at Bangor University, remains one of the few degree courses across the UK in which you will have the opportunity, should you wish to do so, to study writing across all the major literary periods from Old English through to the twenty-first century. Our particular areas of expertise lie in Medieval Literature, the Early Modern period, Romanticism, literary Modernism and Contemporary fiction and poetry. Within that range we also have strengths in Arthurian literature, Gender theory and Women's Writing, Literature and Science, and Welsh Writing in English.
Creative Writing and Film Studies are other areas of expertise, and form an
important part of the overall portfolio of courses offered by the School of
English. We also have strengths in Medieval, Early Modern, Arthurian Studies,
Gothic writing, American literature, Postcolonialism, Welsh Writing in English
and Contemporary Poetry.
At postgraduate level we offer a range of taught courses, including MAs in in Film Practice and in Creative and Critical Writing, all of which run alongside our central MA programme in English. We currently have PhD students working in all major periods of English Literature and in Critical and Creative Writing.
The School of English at Bangor University offers you the
opportunity to study writing across all the major literary periods from Old
English through to the twenty-first century, and to combine your study of
English with creative writing and film studies. You can either choose to
specialise in one particular period or periods, or select a variety of modules
from the wide range on offer.
