Welcome to

Medievalism Transformed

An interdisciplinary postgraduate conference

Mission Statement
Medievalism Transformed is an annual event that aims to explore the medieval world and its sustained impact on subsequent culture and thought. Bringing together postgraduates from universities across the United Kingdom and worldwide, this conference seeks to offer students of medieval studies the opportunity to present their research in a peer-led, peer-reviewed forum. This conference is unique not only because it welcomes research from a multitude of medieval studies' disciplines, but also because of its interest in the sustained fascination with and impact of the middle ages in later centuries.

Past Conferences

The inaugural conference, Medievalism Transformed: Back and Forth in Medieval Studies, was held at Bangor University on 18 June 2005. Students from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States delivered papers on a wide variety of subjects, offering new perspectives on medieval texts and themes and examining the future possibilities of medievalism. Professor P.J.C. Field delivered the conference’s opening address, and our guest speaker, Professor Maldwyn Mills, spoke on Chaucer’s Miller’s Tale and its relation to Freud’s unheimlech. The conference closed with a Round Table discussion on the future directions of research in medieval studies and medievalism.
