Emeritus Professor James T. Boulton, formerly Head of the Department of English in the University of Birmingham, 1975-88, and Emeritus Director of Birmingham’s Institute for Advanced Research, has recently moved to North Wales and has been granted the title of Honorary Professor in Bangor’s School of English.  He is a Fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Society of Literature; he holds the honorary degree of DLitt from the Universities of Durham and Nottingham.

His principal publications include a critical edition of Edmund Burke’s Philosophical Enquiry into…the Sublime and Beautiful (1958, 1968 etc); The Language of Politics in the Age of Wilkes and Burke (1963); Samuel Johnson: the Critical Heritage (1971); and edn. of James Boswell’s Account of Corsica (2006).  Since 1973 he has been General Editor of the Cambridge Edition of The Letters and Works of D. H. Lawrence; the Letters occupy 8 volumes, the Works 30 volumes to date.
