Vehicle Parking

Parking on the University Estate

According to the University’s Parking Regulations all vehicles parked in University car parks must display a valid permit and be parked in a designated parking space. Warning tickets will not be issued with the CPN system. Bangor University CPNs will be set at £80 (reduced to £40 for early payment) and we envisage that this level of charge will prove a deterrent to those currently parking without valid permits (yet occupying spaces that could be utilised by valid permit holders).  Under the new CPN system it will be crucial for all guests, visitors and contractors to display a day/month permit. These permits can be obtained from the Administration section of the Estates and Facilities department.

The CPN can be paid by phone (24 hour) or by post and there will be a reduced charge for early payment.

The benefits of the CPN system include:

  • The enforcement process will be clear and transparent

  • No-one will suffer the inconvenience of an immobilised vehicle

  • Payment can be made more easily and more conveniently

  • More frequent patrols of car parks will be possible

  • Better means of managing illegally parked vehicles

In the next few days new signage will appear in the car parks. These signs will specify the relevant parking offences and will include information on methods of payment and means of appeal.

Further information will be made available prior to the commencement of the new system.

A vehicle parking permit is required by anyone wishing to park in the University vehicle car parks which are normally controlled 24hrs. The permit however DOES NOT guarantee that a parking space will be available for the permit holder.

Parking for Staff

The Administration section can help you if you want to apply for a staff permit. Details about eligibility are available in the parking regulations. You will need to provide you payroll number when making an application. Permits can be collected from the Administration section of the Estates and Facilities department in the Ffriddoedd Building. Unfortunately permits cannot be sent through the mail.

Student Parking 2011/12 & Applying for a Permit

There are two types of permits available to students; a Halls Permit for those who live in University halls of residence, and a Non-Halls Permit for car parks that are in a different town to where they live.  Bangor resident students for example can apply for a Menai Bridge permit (and vice versa), but a Bangor resident student cannot apply for a permit for any of the University’s Bangor car parks.

A permit is required to park at any University car park.  The Estates and Facilities Department appreciates and understands that the first few days for a student in the University will be hectic and therefore allows a reasonable period for you to ‘find your feet’ and make arrangements for parking.  However, from the 3rd October 2011 anyone parked without a valid permit will be penalised.   In the first few days please bear in mind the following important points:

  • Park only in designated car park marked spaces i.e. between two white lines.

  • Parking spaces designated for use by the disabled are reserved for that purpose only.

  • Do not park on yellow lines, over hatched areas, on routes signed as emergency access, or in spaces allocated for disabled people.  Vehicles found parked on these areas of deemed to be causing an obstruction will be fined any may be towed away and left wheel clamped in an areas where no obstruction is caused, notwithstanding the above.  This is due to health and safety implications.

The cost of a student parking permit is £25.  A valid student registration number will be required on application.

When and Where to Purchase a Student Permit

During week commencing 26th September 2011 our staff will be available in Bar Uno (Student Café-Bar on the Ffriddoedd Site) between 11am and 4pm.   If you do not purchase your permit during week commencing 26th September you will need to visit the Estates & Facilities Department (which is located above Bar Uno) from 3rd October 2011.  The office is open from 9am to 4.30pm.  However, please be warned that anyone parked without a valid permit on or after 3rd October will be penalised.

To save time you can fill out an application form in advance.  Application forms are available to download here or from the Estates & Facilities Department or Bar Uno.

During the week when our staff are based in Bar Uno (26th September to 30th September) you will have the option to pay for your permit by card, but since we do not have that facility in the office we can only accept cash or cheque payments from 3rd October 2011.

You will be required to show your NUS card as proof of identification before your permit will be issued.

Finally, please note that the issue of a permit does not guarantee a parking space.
