Overview
The BSc (Hons) Health Studies is a part time course which consists of a wide range of level 5 and level 6 modules with a clear focus on practice. This course is designed to develop evidence based practice and leadership. It is possible to study for a BSc (Hons) Health Studies combined with one of the Specialist Practice Awards listed below. Students following the BSc (Hons) can choose from the range of modules offered at level 5 and level 6 which best relate to their field of practice and meets their individual development needs. There is a compulsary Research module at level 5 and level 6.
Associate Students
Students who do not wish to register for the BSc (Hons) can choose a limited number of modules from the Programme to study as an Associate student at either diploma or degree level. Students can then carry a maximum of 60 credits forward when they choose to register on the degree programme.
Course Aims
- To produce knowledgeable and skilled practitioners capable of delivering
high quality evidence based health care.
- To further develop the personal and professional attributes of the
practitioners attending the courses.
- To provide participants with a broad programme of education to help
facilitate the development of higher levels of professional judgement
and practice.
- To facilitate the development of reflective practitioners.
The following options are currently available:
Entry to these programmes
- Have achieved 120 credits at Level 4 (Cert) and be working in settings where academic/clinical competence requirements of individual modules can be achieved.
- Have an active registration on the relevant part of the professional register.
- Have completed a period of professional practice of (normally) no
less than six months from initial registration.
- Students
not holding full diploma may be able to access at degree level utilising
existing APL [Accreditation of Prior Learning] arrangements. However, students can only utilise the APL
route for no more than 50% (60 CATS points) of the diploma.
- Students applying for one of the Specialist Practice Awards should have 120 credits at level 5 and current registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register.

Fees
The fees for nurses and midwives employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are covered by current contract arrangements with Bangor University if they have the signed support of their Manager.
