WHO Alliance commissions important implementation reviews
Professor Jane Noyes and Dr Arash Rashidain from the School of Healthcare
Sciences have been funded by the World health Organisation Alliance
to undertake an important review on doctor nurse task shifting. They
will be collaborating on this and another review (task shifting and
lay health workers) with Dr Simon Lewin and Dr Claire Glenton from the
Norwegian Knowledge centre in Oslo, Dr Chris Colvin from Cape Town South
Africa and Dr Metin Gulmezoglu from WHO.
The WHO Alliance includes the following partners: The Alliance for Health
Policy and Systems Research (HSS/AHPSR); Special programme of Research,
Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction; Special Programme
for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), and Department
of Child and Adolescent Health and Development (FCH/CAH).
The reviews have been commissioned to inform guideline development on
strategies for Implementing Interventions for Achieving MDGs 4, 5 or
6 as part of an Implementation Research Platform.

Invitation to speak at WHO in Geneva
Professor Jane Noyes presented a seminar at WHO in Geneva on the evolving
role of qualitative evidence in Cochrane intervention reviews. The invited
seminar on 31st May addressed important methodological questions and
challenges concerning mixed-method evidence synthesis that face both
organisations.
Jane Noyes is Co-Chair of the Cochrane Methods Executive, and lead convenor
of the Cochrane Qualitative Research methods Group. The Cochrane Collaboration
was accepted as a Non Governmental Organization in Official Relations
with the WHO in January 2011, establishing a partnership with formalized
communication between the two organizations.

NICE commissions important tobacco harm reduction reviews
Professor Jane Noyes from the School of Healthcare Sciences is part
of a collaboration that has been commissioned to undertake 4 reviews
on tobacco harm reduction to inform NICE guidelines. The team is led
by Dr Alison Weightman, Director, Support Unit for Research Evidence
(SURE) at Cardiff University. Jane is Lead Convenor of the Cochrane
Qualitative Research Methods Group.
