Choosing Bangor…
I loved the place when I visited. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and it was a small beautiful place.
The course…
I do history and started off in the first year with a range of modern and medieval modules so you can decide which you prefer. Then in the second year I specialised in modern with a variety of modules on the two world wars, cold war and Vietnam. Women’s history and American History was also included. Finally in my final year I focused on American history covering interesting aspects such as slavery, right up to civil rights and Kennedy’s assassination. The course offers a lot of variety and it has been fun and challenging. The lectures are good and everyone is very helpful. It’s a fantastic academic school.
My highlight so far…
I think my final year has been the highlight because I was able to focus on what
I was really interested in and doing my dissertation was a big boost for me as
I was able to spend my own time on it and research and plan myself. I did slavery as it really interested me and I enjoyed doing the work for it.
The School’s facilities…
The lecturers are very helpful and you can talk to anyone even if they are not your specific lecturer. There are adequate uses of computers and resources for every period.
The academic school is good and organised. All the information regarding is exams
Etc is put on the notice board in plenty of time. It’s a very helpful academic school and good fun.
The staff…
The staff are very friendly and helpful. They are so nice and everyone knows each other.
My first few days at Bangor…
They were fun but scary! Got lost a bit and was nervous as I did not know anyone but everyone was so kind and friendly and I had a peer guide from history who was a student who made me feel at home and it really helped.
Support at Bangor…
I feel there is support everywhere you go. As well as support in your academic school, there is also support at the Students’ Union where you can receive financial and career guidance. There is a councillor available and the nightline helpline where you can talk about anything to anyone rather than see them.
The best thing about Bangor…
I think everything about Bangor. I love the academic school and my course. The place is great and there are lots to do. You can walk anywhere, go shopping or go for a drink. You can even have an adventurous day and go mountain biking or walk up Snowdon or have a peaceful time by walking on the pier.
Student life in Bangor…
Student life is great. It’s quiet compared to larger cities, but that’s what I like about
Bangor. There are lots of nice pubs all within close range of the University and the clubs offer such a variety of nights that the music appeals to everyone. There are also lots of pub quizzes which are fun and a lot of offers on through the week on drinks etc.
Clubs and Societies…
I am a member of the snow sports club which is great fun. It is worth joining as many as you can because you get to meet new people and they organise great social evenings.
Plans for the future…
I am doing a PGCE so I can gain an extra qualification to open up some more opportunities. I also want to stay in Bangor for a bit longer. I hope to go into teaching but it will open up other areas for me.
