Maintenance and Repair of Equipment

University Owned Desktop Computers

The Microcomputer Support Service will liaise with warranty engineers or carry out repairs, free of charge, on University-owned, desktop computers up to the age of 5 years as long as it makes economic sense.

University Owned Printers

We will do the same for printers but it is more often the case that repairs to printers are not cost-effective.  Replacement of faulty equipment is the responsibility of the department not IT Services.

University Owned Notebooks

For University-owned notebook computers, we will assess faults and effect simple repairs. If parts are required we will fit these. In this case, labour is provided but the parts will be charged for. In the case of more complex faults we will send the notebook to a contractor to assess and/or repair and all costs incurred will be recharged.

Maintenance Agreements

Departments may wish to take out maintenance contracts on large volume, essential printers or notebook computers. There is a Higher Education contract for this with Xenon Network Services Ltd which is good value. Contact 0161 929 5282 for full details.

Privately Owned Hardware

IT Services are not able to carry out repairs to privately owned computer equipment.
