ResNet Services

Services on ResNet

Your room has either a standard ethernet network point or wireless coverage. Your computer requires an ethernet / network adapter to utilise the ResNet service. A network connection cable (Ethernet Cable) will be included in your welcome pack. Users in Arfon, Seiriol, Rathbone and Garth halls will require a wireless network adapter as ResNet in these halls is wireless.

Users must use anti virus software on their machines, Sophos antivirus is freely available to Bangor University staff and students. We also recommend the use of a personal firewall and adware/spyware protection such as Malware Bytes.

With your ResNet connection you are able to use the following services ..

  • Remote Access to Applications
    • We now offer access to university software from your personal computers. For more information click here.
  • Connecting additional Devices to ResNet.

    We understand that many of you will want to connect devices such as games consoles and media players to your ResNet connection.

    Residents in wired halls can connect an unmanaged network switch to their socket and as long as your computer is connected and signed in any other device should work through the switch.

    The use of routers is not supported, you must use a switch. If you require any advice please ask before purchasing. Any of the following devices should work and we have used the Zyxel 5 port switch in testing.
