Photocopying and copyright law

  • The Higher Education Copying Accord and copyright law only permit certain types of material and specific amounts can be photocopied for teaching, research and private study
  • You must observe these limits. Any infringement can result in legal action against the university and you personally. The Copyright Licensing Agency employ Compliance Officers to check that the law and the Accord are being observed
  • Only the library photocopiers are licensed for the purpose of copying from published material for teaching, research and private study. The copying of published material on a departmental copier or in a retail outlet is not covered by the Accord and is a breach of copyright
  • The library will endeavour to seek permission directly from the publisher if more that one chapter is require from a book or more than one article is requested from any journal issue.
