I first came to Bangor University as an undergraduate to study French, Italian and Spanish. After graduation I remained at the university, joining the Lexicelt Welsh-Irish online phrasebook project at the Language Technologies Unit as assistant editor. I then returned to the School of Modern Languages as a PhD student, with research funding from the ESF Objective 1 programme and from the independent television production company Ffilmiau'r Nant. While carrying out my research I was responsible for teaching practical workshops on the use of SDL Trados and MultiTerm software to students on the MA course in Translation Studies.  

I am currently a member of the Welsh-medium Higher Education Terminology project at the Language Technologies Unit, where I work as terminologist and project manager. Apart from terminology, my main research interests are localization, lesser-used languages and language technologies for the translation industry. 

My PhD thesis, Website localization and its application to Welsh, provides public and private sector organizations, translators, web developers and other interested parties with a better understanding of the issues involved in the localization of websites for the Welsh language market. It uses several research methods to achieve this, namely a survey, a localization project and interviews. Those interviewed include translators in key positions in Wales, team leaders at the Welsh Language Board, experts at Lionbridge Technologies and Microsoft, and staff at SDL International.
