Guto Puw's 'Reservoirs' nominated for RPS Music Award

Bangor composer Guto Puw's orchestral work Reservoirs has been nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Music Awards, the UK’s live classical music awards in association with Radio 3. A short list of nominations will be announced on 11 April 2005 and the awards will be presented at a dinner in the Dorchester Hotel on 11 May 2005.

Reservoirs, nominated for an award in the large-scale composition category, was inspired by the poem by R. S. Thomas, illustrating the drowning of several Welsh valleys to provide a water supply for industrial cities in England. The premiere took place almost forty years after the waters began to flood Capel Celyn – a village where the composer’s own Grandfather had kept land.
