Background
Leila was born in Cardiff and raised in Llangynog, near Carmarthen. She attended Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin before gaining a first-class degree in Welsh and Music at Bangor University. After graduating in 2006, she followed an MPhil course entitled ‘Canu’r Dewin o Drefflemin: Golwg ar Alawon Gwerin Iolo Morganwg’ (The Songs of the Magician from Trefflemin: a look at the Folk Melodies of Iolo Morganwg) which includes a study of the wider context of the period, a redaction and explanatory notes to match the melodies. She is now working on a doctorate, in partnership with the music publishing company ‘Curiad’.

Research interests
Leila’s area of PhD research is the traditional music of Wales in the 18th and 19th centuries, concentrating on the musical activity of Mair Richards Darowen (1787 – 1877).
