Bangor cares about its students- so much so that the University of Wales, Bangor tops the 'Most helpful administration' category in a major UK-wide survey of 10,000 students.
The survey asked first year students 44 questions in 10 broad areas covering different factors that affected their student experience, including asking about the quality of campus facilities (in which Bangor was highly rated), which universities were recommended by parents and teachers, the impressions of different universities formed from university league tables and which had 'exciting city' locations. Bangor appears 12th overall, having topped the 'Most helpful' category and featured strongly in others. Bangor's students responded positively to questions about how they were treated during the application process, how helpful university staff were during their first year and how useful they found both the University's prospectus and web pages.
"At the end of the day, choosing the right university and course comes down to personal experience and that's why we recommend that students considering following a course at Bangor come to visit the University during either a University or departmental Open Day. We place a great emphasis on treating people as individuals and on providing a caring atmosphere and we're so pleased that this is borne out by this survey," said Carys Roberts, Head of Student Recruitment at the University.
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Merfyn Jones welcomed the news, saying: "We focus on providing an excellent student experience at Bangor, through excellent teaching and student support and I'm pleased that our strategy is successful."
"It's very much a team effort and everyone - from central recruitment and admissions staff, to academic and support staff in departments, to Halls staff and welfare advisers, - has a part to play in ensuring students have a postive experience at Bangor," he added.
Around a thousand would-be Bangor students will arrive at Bangor next Saturday 25 June for the University's main Open Day for prospective students. They will visit departments to learn more about the courses they want to follow and get a taste of the University's facilities and residential campus.
