Bangor University aims to strengthen its position among the UK’s research-intensive universities.  The University is committed to excellence in teaching and to providing students with the best teaching and learning resources and support. Along with excellent teaching and research, regional and international collaboration with industry, business and the public sector are vital to the success of the University. This ‘third mission’ activity enhances the University’s research capacity.

The University’s Strategic Plan confirms that the University will build greater concentrations of research strength within and across disciplines in a way that will enable Bangor to become more successful in major grant capture and in research output overall. Every department is charged with the responsibility of achieving a close alignment between teaching and research, so that staff lead the drive for research excellence and also deliver teaching of the highest quality informed by that research culture. Good teaching and research are complementary: each should stimulate the other.
