Research and Innovation Office

A new Research and Innovation Office (RIO)

Under the leadership of Professor. David Shepherd, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, the Research and Innovation Office is charged with supporting the development of the University's research and innovation agenda.

The Research and Innovation Office provides strategic and operational support for the University’s research and innovation agenda, and has a crucial role in facilitating the University’s research and third mission outcomes. RIO is involved in developing the University’s research, knowledge and technology transfer profile and also provides strategic and operational links with external agencies including funding bodies.

The RIO prides itself on strong partnerships with academic and administrative staff in Colleges and Schools and strives to ensure that the support it provides is delivered in the most professional, efficient and effective manner.

RIO is the first point of contact for staff seeking assistance in identifying funding opportunities. Experienced staff advise on applications and submissions to funding agencies.

The RIO exists to facilitate connections, both for University staff and for external organisations and to offer prompt, informed advice on all aspects of the University's research, knowledge transfer and commercialisation activity, ensuring that enquiries are targeted to the appropriate contact with the minimum of delay.

The commercialisation staff within RIO assist researchers in assessing their inventions for commercial potential, and provides guidance on Intellectual Property protection, and commercialising inventions.
To improve the communication process with external bodies, Bangor University has tasked the Research and Innovation Office with being the single point of contact for the wide range of skills, expertise and facilities that are available in the institution.
