RIO manages several schemes that help secure funding for postgraduates and recent graduates to work in collaboration with employers and organisations. This includes funded work placements and knowledge sharing research and development opportunities.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a nationwide scheme that provides recent graduates with the chance to gain relevant work experience while working on a project within a company or organisation. It involves a three way partnership between the graduate (or Associate), the company and the University, and can last from 10 weeks to 3 years, depending on the nature of the project.
KTP Associates own their project and are supported by experienced staff from the business and the University. Typical challenges encountered by a KTP Associate, depending on qualifications, include designing and introducing new or improved products or processes, re-organising production facilities, introducing improved quality systems and technology, or developing and implementing marketing strategies to break into new markets.
KTP opportunities are usually advertised through recruitment press and on the university jobs webpage.
Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships are a portfolio of ESF (European Social Fund) supported projects linked to businesses based in the Convergence area of Wales. 3 year PhD and 1 year Masters research projects are available.
In addition to carrying out research in collaboration with the company partner all KESS scholars also undertake research, business and innovation-skills training leading to a Postgraduate Skills Development Award.
A CASE studentship is a full-time PhD studentship during which the student enhances their training by spending a certain amount of time (anything between three and eighteen months during the life of the entire project) with an external co-operating organisation outside the academic environment.
Introduced in 2009, to mark the 125th Anniversary of Bangor University, the Anniversary Research Scholarships and Bursaries are flagship awards for students who wish to study in this dynamic and research focussed University. In 2011/12 we have over 18 further Anniversary Research Scholarships to award and welcome high quality applications for these prestigious awards.
The studentships provide support for 3 years of full time PhD study and cover fees, provide an annual stipend and an annual research allowance. The Bursaries provide an annual stipend over 3 years.
