Research Interests
Social theories of culture and creativity; cultural formations and
transitions in post-Soviet societies; social implications of new technologies;
the formation of social identities at local, national and international
levels; research methods for the sociological analysis of culture, media
and communications.
Recent and current research grants:
2008-11 The Evolution of European
Identity: Using biographical methods to study the development of European
identity (EU 7th Framework Programme)
Leader of Bangor team including Dr Sally Baker (Research Fellow) and
Marta Kowalska (researcher assistant). This three year project is coordinated
by Professor Robert Miller from Queen’s University, Belfast. The other
partners are from the Institute of Sociology, Magdeburg, Germany; the
Department of European Culture Studies, University of Lodz, Poland;
the School of Economics and Business Administration, Tallinn University
of Technology, Estonia; the Institute of Sociology, Bulgarian Academy
of Sciences, Bulgaria; and the Department of Sociology, ‘Frederico II’
University, Naples, Italy.
