Training Grants

Availability of Initial Teacher Training incentives for the following academic year is announced by the Welsh Government on an annual basis.

Teacher Training Incentive Grants 2014/15
The initial teacher training (ITT) incentive grants available in Wales for new eligible students on specified postgraduate (PGCE) ITT courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status starting in the 2014/15 academic year are as follows:-

Honours degree qualification of student
Postgraduate secondary courses in:
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Postgraduate secondary courses in:

ICT and Welsh

Postgraduate secondary courses in: Biology, Religious Education, Art & Design, Physical Education, Music, Outdoor Studies Additional primary supplement for those with degrees in English, Welsh and mathematics

and/or 2.1 in physics

Eligible students with a 1st degree qualification on mathematics, physics and chemistry postgraduate ITT courses starting in the 2014/15 academic year would receive the £20,000 incentive grant.

ITT incentive grants will only be available in the subjects or study areas listed above.  For secondary combined courses, the qualifying subject would be the main subject studied. 

Eligible students who are ordinarily resident in Wales and starting full-time postgraduate ITT courses in the 2014/15 academic year can also receive a tuition fee grant of up to £5,315. 

The incentives relate to courses which lead to Qualified Teacher Status.  They do not apply to further education teacher training courses.

Grants are available to students on designated courses meeting specified eligibility criteria.Terms and conditions apply.

Grants are only available for specified postgraduate ITT courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status starting in the 2014/15 academic year.  No availability of incentives at these rates for future years is implied. Subjects/phase is subject to change in future years depending on recruitment and policy.
