Student life in Bangor

Aspiring barrister graduates with First Class degree

David taylorAn aspiring barrister from Bethesda who studied at Bangor University’s School of Law is celebrating gaining a First Class Honours degree. David Taylor, 37, worked in retail management before deciding to take the plunge and enrolling on Bangor’s LLB law degree course.

David said, “Bangor was the obvious choice for me as a mature student as I was able to maintain my home life as well as study. The efforts of all the staff at the School of Law have been amazing and if I had to choose again, I would choose Bangor without hesitation.

“It’s a relief to be graduating. Although I was sure that I could complete the course there was always a nagging doubt that I might not do well enough to pursue a career at the Bar. Next I will be going on to Manchester to begin the vocational stage of training for the Bar; the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Thanks to a scholarship from the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, this stage will be fully funded, as is my call to the Bar on completion of the course.”

As a mature student David had to find a balance between his studies and home life. During the evenings and weekends he cleaned coaches for a local coach holiday company and worked with children for Conwy Council social services which he describes as “hard going, but rewarding.”

As for the future, David is looking forward to practising law. He said, “Once the next stage of training is completed I hope to practice as a barrister, and maybe in the future take up a judicial appointment.”
