University's indoor sport facilities...

Maesglas Sports Centre

Maesglas is the University’s main sports centre and is situated next to the Ffriddoedd site. It provides sports and recreation facilities for both members of the University and for the general public. There are many indoor and outdoor facilities for a whole range of sports and fitness activities that are sure to suit your needs.

The two sports halls at Maesglas offer:

  • Badminton  
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Netball
  • Indoor Hockey
  • Five-a-side
  • Table Tennis
  • Archery
  • Trampolining
  • Indoor Bowls
  • Indoor Cricket
  • Various fitness classes

You can also take advantage of the specialist facilities at Maesglas, which include:

  • weights training room
  • cardio-vascular training room
  • Squash Courts
  • Climbing Wall
  • Multi Purpose Gymnastics Hall

Normal Site

The facilities at the Normal site are used by the School of Education from 9.00am to 6.00pm daily but are available every evening and at weekends. A number of the clubs and societies at Bangor take advantage of the facilities available at the Normal Site.

At the Normal Site Sports Hall you can try your hand at:

  • Five a side
  • Cricket
  • Archery

The two gymnasiums on the Normal Site are used for a number of martial arts classes including:

  • Ki-Aikido
  • Judo
  • Karate
  • Fencing
  • Thai Kick boxing

University's outdoor sport facilities...

Maesglas Sports Centre offers many outdoor facilities including:

  • Floodlit Synthetic Pitch / Astro Turf
  • Tennis Courts
  • 2 Grass Football Pitches
  • Rugby Pitch

At the University’s Treborth Site , located next to the Menai Straits you can enjoy:

  • 4 full size football pitches
  • Pavillion
  • 8 lane Athletics track

At Nantporth near the Normal Site you’ll find both Rugby and Football pitches that are also used for Gaelic football and Lacrosse.

The University also has a Rowing Club and its boathouse is situated on the shore of the Menai Straits on the mainland side, between Menai Bridge and Bangor Pier.

Local facilities

In Bangor itself there is a 25-metre swimming pool with an aquaslide and health suite. Other popular local attractions include the ten-pin bowling alley in Llandudno and the numerous outdoor pursuits centres across North Wales including dry-ski slopes both in Llandudno and at the National Mountaineering Centre at Capel Curig and the Water sports centre at Plas Menai.
