Lectures….
You will learn most of the theory work in lectures. They are normally presentations by academic staff given to groups of students studying the same subject. You’ll find that the pace is faster than in school courses and you are expected to write your own notes and learn more through reading further.
Seminars
Seminars are more informal teaching/discussion sessions in smaller groups and involve more interaction with the tutor.
Tutorials
In a tutorial you will meet with your tutor either on your own or as a part of a small group.
This is a good opportunity to discuss any problems you may have. You may also need to prepare work to discuss or present.
Practical
Some courses are more practical and involve workshops or laboratory work. These give you the opportunity to handle material described in the lectures, to use experimental techniques, and to make the connection between theory and practice. Practicals’ often include project work.
Field trips
You might also have the opportunity to undertake field work or visit relevant organisations or research establishments.
