Koninklijke Brill NV is pleased to announce the launch of the new book series, ‘Global Pentecostal & Charismatic Studies’ (GPCS). Under the series editorship of William K Kay, Reader in Practical Theology and Director of the Centre for Pentecostal & Charismatic Studies at Bangor University, and Andrew Davies, Director of the School of Graduate Studies at Mattersey Hall, the British Assemblies of God Theological College, GPCS will be a unique new collection of studies of the worldwide Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.
Since the birth of Pentecostalism in the early years of the 20th century, it has grown to become the single largest group within Protestant Christianity, and a major new field of research interest in religion and theology. But despite this global fascination, Pentecostalism remains massively underrepresented in the mainstream academic sphere and particularly in terms of published material. It is hoped GPCS will play a significant role in correcting that imbalance.
The series will have two major threads. The first will focus on large cultural and geographic zones so as to examine and illustrate contextual influences upon the Pentecostal and charismatic movement in those regions; the second will examine broad cross-cultural themes of significance and relevance to worldwide Pentecostalism. Volumes presently in preparation include studies of the growth and development of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements in Latin America and in Europe and a collection of essays on the use and influence of the Bible in global Pentecostalism. Volumes on North America, eschatology, ecclesiology and Pentecostal music are also under consideration.
The GPCS Editorial Board will comprise scholars from many different academic and denominational backgrounds, representing the key institutions and theological traditions of Pentecostalism worldwide, and the various professional societies involved in the study of Pentecostalism and the Charismatic movement such as SPS, EPTA, EPCRA and GloPent.
It is anticipated that the first volumes in the series will be available in late 2009 and early 2010 and that we will generally produce two to three volumes a year.
CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS
The Series Editors are prepared to consider any relevant manuscript proposal in the fields of Pentecostal and Charismatic studies. Particularly, we are looking for manuscripts on biblical and theological issues of specific concern and interest to Pentecostalism (which would include areas of Empirical and Practical Theology; Pentecostal Theology; History of Pentecostalism; Pentecostal Ecclesiology and Missiology) or on biblical and theological issues of more general concern and interest, but specifically viewed from the perspective of Pentecostalism (such as Church History; Biblical Studies; Systematic Theology, etc.) or for potential contributors with specialist interest in and knowledge of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movement in its different regional expressions. We have a particular interest in any material that would have a global application and relevance beyond the Western world. We are looking for full-length monographs as well as potential contributions to multi-authored works.
