Centre for the Advanced Study of Religion in Wales

The Centre for the Advanced Study of Religion in Wales, located within the School of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Wales, Bangor, was established at the beginning of 1998 in order to promote and facilitate research into all aspects of religion in Wales. Building on the expertise in the School of Theology, the aim was to enable comparative and collaborative studies to place the Welsh religious experience within a wider British and European context. Part of the Centre's purpose was to ensure that the fruit of this research received the widest possible dissemination primarily through publication.

To date the Centre has concentrated on three areas of activity:

  • Publication (eleven books have been published with three further titles in the Press. For further information, click Publications.)
  • Conferences (including a conference on Religion and National Identity in Scotland and Wales, held in New College, Edinburgh in September 1999 and a conference held in Bangor in July 2004 to celebrate the centenary of the 1904-5 Revival)
  • Journal (for further information click Journal.)

In July 2007, the Centre will be launching a new series of Day Schools. The first will be held in Aberystwyth under the title 'Wales and the Social Gospel'. For further details, click Activities.
