I attended open days at other universities and was offered a place at Chester and Manchester Universities, but as soon as I walked into Bangor I immediately felt at home. The School is friendly and welcoming and the College is supportive and very approachable.

The course...

I have studied aspects from the history of the church e.g. the Protestant Reformation, Christian Doctrine, Islam, Eastern Religions, looked at specific topics within the Old Testament and the New Testament, the psychology of religion and religiosity, Judaism, Faith and Feminism, Ethics and at the moment I'm studying Biblical Interpretation, The Theology of Paul, the Anthropology of Religions and theories suggested for why people have faith, the philosophy of Religion and how the concept of God has changed over time. The School here at Bangor offers a varied choice of modules that covers a wide range of subjects and many aspects of religion. If you choose you can study more 'contemporary' topics such as God in Film etc. so they manage to appeal to a diverse selection of students.

My highlight so far...

I would have to say being selected to represent the School and meet the Chancellor of the University, The Prince of Wales, at his home in Highgrove House! A once in a lifetime opportunity. Other than that, I would say the highlight was enjoying the degree much more than I anticipated and getting better marks than I originally thought I would!!

The School’s facilities...

The school has its own library within the school in addition to a large selection of books within the main library, it also offers a number of on-line resources to reputable sites. It offers an 'open door' policy which allows you to just drop in to speak to a member of staff if you have any problems or queries. However, I would say the School's best resource is its staff, they are so knowledgeable on the subjects they teach and always happy to help if you have any queries.

The staff like...

I cannot think of a bad word to say about any of the staff. They are all experts in their field but are still happy to help and discuss any problems that you may have. They are very approachable and 'human' and create a supportive environment in which to study.

My school...

A small, intimate school that works on a personal level and has a 'family' atmosphere.

My first few days at Bangor...

My first few days at Bangor were great. I was really concerned about not 'fitting in'. Mainly because I commute every day so do not live on campus, in addition to being a mature student. I expected to spend my time sitting on my own in a corner! However, the staff and students were so friendly and because its not a massive 'faceless' school, it made the transition into studying and the 'academic life' really easy.

Receiving enough support...

Definitely, without a shadow of a doubt. My first point of contact with any problem is always the School of Theology and they have not let me down yet!

The best thing about Bangor...

The best thing about Bangor is the learning environment, it manages to combine high academic standards with a warm family atmosphere

Plans for the future...

I haven't thought that far ahead!! I'm making enquiries into doing a Masters here but as yet I'm not sure.
