John Boneham, 23 of Ammanford is studying a PhD in Theology
Choosing the School of Theology and Religious Studies...
I had wanted to study Theology since school. I had studied A level Religious Studies and found the course very interesting. I chose Bangor as I was impressed with the Open Day which I attended before coming to Bangor and I thought that the School seemed friendly and welcoming. I was also attracted to North Wales, a part of the country which I hadn't visited at all before coming to the Open Day!
The course...
I am in the second year of my PhD on "Isaac Williams and the Oxford Movement". This involves me spending a large proportion of time on research into 19th century Church History as I work on my thesis.
My highlight so far...
Graduating after completing my first degree here in 2004.
The staff...
In my experience the School's staff have been thoroughly helpful, approachable and supportive.
My school...
The school offers a variety of modules. These include subjects traditionally associated with Theology (New and Old Testament studies, New Testament Greek and Church History) as well as modules on Eastern Religions (Buddhism and Islam) and on Empirical Theology. It offers undergraduate degree programmes in Divinity (B.D.), Theology (B.Th.), as well as Biblical Studies and Religious Studies (B.A.).
My first few days at Bangor...
Daunting at first, but I soon settled in and started to feel at home after making friends who lived with me in Halls.
The best thing about Bangor...
The scenic location of being close to the Menai Straits and Snowdonia.
Plans for the future...
I am thinking about possibly trying to pursue a career in academia or librarianship.
