As a Christian, I have always had a keen interest in theological issues and debates, so choosing to study Theology has enabled me to further my understanding of biblical texts and has also awakened me to the extent of scholarly thought surrounding religious matters today.

The course…

The Biblical Studies course has a number of core modules including New Testament, Greek and the study of the Old and New Testaments. You then have plenty of choice of the other modules provided by the department covering aspects of other religions (e.g. Judaism, Buddhism) or looking more in depth at Christianity (e.g. studying Church History).

My highlight so far…

Studying Greek has definitely been the highlight of the course so far, it certainly has proved to be challenging (particularly of late!), but nevertheless it is a very enjoyable course and useful for studying the New Testament in depth. Being a very small class, we have been able to discuss things in detail and have always received individual support for aspects that we did not quite understand.

The School’s facilities…

Theology has its own school library which contains a variety of books for the course that can be borrowed at any time during office hours. Most of the books for the course can be found in main library, but for others that aren't’t in the main library, the departmental library is very useful.

The staff…

The staff are absolutely wonderful! I can honestly say the staff in the School of Theology and Religious Studies are extremely friendly, helpful and caring. You can be assured that they will always be there, and willing, to talk to you if you need them.

The School of Theology and Religious Studies…

The School of Theology and Religious Studies is a small one and so everyone tends to be very close to each other, including the staff with the students! It’s a lively and friendly atmosphere, and the lectures even tend to reflect the intimacy of the School. We have often had a number of class debates sparked from the content of the lecture, which I feel the staff have responded to immensely well. An example of a module which sparked a great deal of class discussion was the Protestant Reformation. A number of us thoroughly enjoyed these lectures and the freedom to be able to speak your mind.

My first few days at Bangor…

My first few days in Bangor were wonderful! Everyone was so welcoming and I remember being so overwhelmed with the beautiful scenery surrounding Bangor. It certainly was a great place to move to.

Support at Bangor…

As I stated, the School has been great with offering support to the students, as well as the University as a whole.

The best thing about Bangor…

Aside from the scenery, it would probably have to be the size of Bangor. It’s fantastic to be able to walk everywhere, and no matter where you go, you cannot avoid bumping into someone that you know!

Student Life in Bangor…

It’s great. There’s so much on offer here - a couple of nightclubs and over 50 pubs! The Student Union also has a great number of clubs and societies that you can join.

Clubs and Societies…

I am a member of the Christian Union and I have been involved in a number of sports teams including Women’s football and Ultimate Frisbee.

My future…

I will be getting married this summer! With regards to my degree, I’m not yet certain where I will be taking it next, I have always dreamed of becoming an author, but we’ll see!
