School of Theology and Religious Studies

Ethics Committee of the College of Arts and Humanities

Theology and Religious Studies is a large and diverse area, ranging from textual analysis to ethnographical study. It is an inter-disciplinary field, crossing with other disciplines such as history, psychology, politics, anthropology and archaeology. Researchers have a professional and moral responsibility to adhere to ethical principles and procedures as well as the code of conduct appropriate to their discipline. We would like to draw particular attention to the Framework of Professional Practice of the Association of University Departments of Theology and Religious Studies as well as to the Ethics Guideline of the British Psychological Society.

Any research project in the School of Theology and Religious Studies that includes interviewing people and questionnaires must adhere to the Code of Ethics outlined in the Guidelines. The Ethics Committee of the College of Arts and Humanities will ensure that research performed within, or supported by STARS is conducted in an ethical and humane manner. All proposed interviews and questionnaires will be evaluated by the College Research Ethics Committee and must be sent in the first instance to Linda Jones in the College of Arts and Humanities (l.c.jones@bangor.ac.uk).

Your proposal must include,

  • The application form (which can be download below)
  • The questionnaire/s or interview/s you intend to use
  • An information sheet. This will be given to the individuals you intend to interview, and will explain briefly the purpose of your research and how the questionnaire/s or interview/s fit into it.
  • The participant consent form (which can be downloaded below)

Queries may be sent to Dr. Lucy Huskinson in the the School of Theology and Religious Studies (l.huskinson@bangor.ac.uk).
