Over the past year, the School of Welsh-Medium Studies has:
worked closely with the marketing unit to promote recruitment and to organise
a Schools Contact Programme to share information with schools about our
Welsh-medium courses
taken part in Open Days and the One-Day Conference for Sixth Forms,
advised PAG, the Committee for Welsh-Medium Studies, about developments
and spending priorities
taken part in discussions about promoting Welsh-medium and bilingual teaching,
quality issues, recruitment, Welcome Week, and student matters
assisted in reviewing the day-to-day working of UWB's Language Plan through
the Language Plan Review Group
updated an e-mail group and list of Welsh-speaking lecturers and support
staff
maintained the SWMS website
continued to seek the views of members of the School about future development
opportunities
assisted in dialogue with ELWa/HEFCW regarding Welsh medium provision.
worked with the Welsh-Medium Development Officer of the Federal University
of Wales to develop new Welsh-medium provision
welcomed new Welsh-speaking students during Welcome Week at a Cheese and
Wine reception
co-ordinated information about the numbers of students at Bangor studying
through the medium of Welsh
continued discussions with the Academic Office ways of gathering more
detailed and useful information about Welsh-speaking students at Bangor
held discussions with the Welsh Students Union, UMCB and opened a shared
office in Neuadd JMJ
worked with UMCB to get better facilities for students at Neuadd JMJ
