A presentation by Dr Ioan Matthews

Dr Ioan Matthews and Dr Dylan Phillips from the Welsh Medium Teaching Development Centre were welcomed to the School's meeting on Monday 23 April. In his presentation, Dr Matthews outlined the work of the newly-formed sector group charged with the responsibility for developing and implementing a sector-wide Welsh medium strategy. Gwerddon Launch

The academic e-journal GWERDDON will be launched in The Drum, at the National Library for Wales, Aberystwyth,at 2.30pm, on Monday, 30th April. An address will be delivered by Professor Ioan Williams, editor of GWERDDON, and the RLF Writing Fellow, Elin ap Hywel, will present a poem to celebrate the event. Light refreshment will be available.

GWERDDON's inaugural volume contains four articles, in the fields of Performance Studies, Linguistics, Education and Welsh History. The periodical's aim is to provide a first class forum for trans-disciplinary academic discussion in Wales and an opportunity for the scholarly works of academics and Welsh medium writers to be published.

The second volume will follow before the end of 2007.

Review of Welsh Medium Premium Payments

HEFCW is currently in the process of reviewing the appropriateness of the existing arrangements for Welsh medium premium payments. As part of this process, a paper has been circulated inviting institutions to provide views on a range of options under consideration. Members of staff are welcome to send any comments they wish to make directly to Pro Vice-Chancellor Meri Huws.

The School's next meeting will be held on May 15th at 2.15pm in the Hen Coleg Conference Room. This is the meeting that was originally scheduled for April 24th.

Gwerddon Call for Articles

Gwerddon's editorial board is currently inviting articles to be published in the online journal's second volume. It is expected that the first volume will be published in October.

St. David's Day 2006

An informal meeting, organised by the Welsh post-grads, will be held in the post-graduate/mature student common room in the Music Annex on St David's Day @ 6pm.

Prof Peredur Lynch, Head of Welsh will give a short introduction to Saint David. Light refreshment and wine available - for £2, to be paid at the door. All post-grad Welsh speakers/dysgwyr welcome.
