A crown, chair, medal and prize for Bangor!
Things got off to a great start on Monday when former School of Welsh student, Eigra Lewis Roberts was awarded the Crown. This wasn’t the first time by far for Eigra to grab a top prize at the Eisteddfod as she was awarded the Prose Medal twice, in 1965 a 1968
and went away with the Drama Trophy in 1974. She is the author of one of the most popular Welsh dramas on S4C, Minafon, and was made an Honorary Fellow by Bangor University in 2004.
It was Gwen Pritchard Jones’ turn to celebrate on Tuesday afternoon when she won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize for her substantial history novel Dygwyl Eneidiau. Gwen is currently studying a PhD in Creative Writing at Bangor and is also a former BEd student at the Normal College. This is the second year in a row for this prestigious prize to go to a School of Welsh student. Sian Eirian Rees Davies grabbed the title last year for her novel I Fyd Sydd Well.

By Wednesday afternoon, another female was added to the list as Fflur Dafydd from Carmarthen won the Prose Medal for her novel Atyniad
Fflur Dafydd gained a doctorate at Bangor University for her advanced post-colonial study on the work of the Welsh poet R.S
Thomas.
The successful week came to an end with another celebration when the Chair was awarded to Gwynfor Ab Ifor from Sling, Bethesda. Gwynfor, a former PGCE student, was the Chief Administrative Officer at the Normal College until 1996.
