Ngugi wa Thiong’o to visit the School of Welsh

Llun o Ngugi wa Thiong'oNgugi wa Thiong’o, the renowned novelist and scholar from Kenya, will deliver a special lecture hosted by the School of Welsh, Bangor University in the Main Arts Lecture Theatre at the beginning of June.

Born in Kenya, Ngugi wa Thiong’o was persecuted and imprisoned for opposing Moi’s Dictatorship.  He has being living in exile since 1982.

He is currently Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at University of California, Irvine and his scholarly publications, which include Decolonising The Mind, have contributed greatly to postcolonial studies.

He is also a prolific dramatist and novelist in his native Gikuyu, and Wizard of the Crow, the English translation of his most recent novel, was nominated for the Commonwealth Writers Prize 2007.

The lecture will be held in the Main Arts Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, 5 June at 5.00 o’clock and a warm welcome is extended to all.
