Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes was born and raised in Ruabon near Wrexham and is one of Wales ' most successful footballers.

Talent Scouts were so impressed with his performance for Wales in the Under 12s tournament, that he was signed up at 14 to join the Manchester United youth side.

As well as having a career dominated by the 'Red Devils', Mark Hughes also played internationally for Wales over 70 times. He scored 16 goals for his country including the winning goal in Wales ' 1-0 victory over England in 1984.

Mark also became Wales ' coach during their turbulent attempts at World Cup 2002 qualification.

A two year spell away from Manchester United also saw Mark playing for Bayern Munich and Barcelona . In 1995 Alex Ferguson shocked fans by selling Mark Hughes to Chelsea, a team Mark had supported as a young footballer.

He later swapped Stamford Bridge for a spell at Southampton before moving back to Blackburn .

Mark then famously became Wales Manager before moving back to Blackburn as a manager.
