This workshop considers what makes an academic argument, and explores how counter-arguments can be used to strengthen your own position and bolster your claims. You will have an opportunity to:

  • explore in groups the features of an academic argument;
  • consider the required elements for a strong academic argument;
  • distinguish between descriptive and critical writing;
  • discuss in groups the role of transition phrases when building a coherent argument
