Session Overview:

This event will be an ERC focus day with Andrew Macdonell, our UKRO (UK Research Office, Brussels) European Advisor for Wales. Andrew is also the National Contact point for the ERC.

 Please note:  Andrew has agreed to review and comment on draft or partial proposals and/or CV’s of applicants in advance of the visit.  Please e-mail drafts to Cornelia Thomas ( by 10.00 20 August.


10:00 – Update on UKRO, BREXIT and current UK-EU funding situation

10:20 – ERC – What it offers and what it funds

Starting Grant: deadline expected Oct 2018

Consolidator Grant: deadline expected Feb 2019

11:10 - How to apply. An overview of the application process, focussing on the different sections (A, B1, B2)


12:00 - Research Office Support and Call Timetable


12:10 - Talk and Q&A with successful ERC Grantee – Dr Kami Koldewyn 


13:00 – Lunch (provided). Opportunity for discussions with Andrew and other applicants


14:00 - Group discussion of proposals.

Applicants to prepare questions in advance about their proposals and discuss as a group, focussing on making the proposals well- structured and punchy


15:00 - Worked Examples as a group.

Andrew will make up a sheet of questions and problems he’s dealt with and attendees can tryto figure out what they should do/what the ERC will do.
