A Special Evening with US Ambassador Matthew W. Barzun

Bangor University was honoured to have US Ambassador Matthew W. Barzun, the highest ranking American official in the United Kingdom, as a guest speaker at a special event held on 12 September 2016. The magnificent Drapers’ Hall in London was the setting for the evening which saw the Ambassador in conversation with Lord Mervyn Davies, Chair of Bangor University’s Development Board.

In his role as Ambassador, Matthew Barzun is responsible for the work of the various sections of the Embassy, and coordinates the activities of all departments and agencies of the United States Government with representatives in Britain. He works to strengthen the ‘special relationship’ between the US and UK - a close political, diplomatic, cultural, economic, military and historical bond between the two countries. Another important part of Ambassador Barzun’s role is outreach to young people. He created the Young Leaders UK programme, a network that connects Britain’s rising leaders, aged 18-30, with the United States and with one another.
