Volunteering is an unpaid activity or work at a not-for profit organisation which makes a difference in the wider community. Voluntary work generally involves doing something that improves the environment or helps members of a particular community. Although volunteer positions are unpaid they can be very rewarding in terms of career development and allow you to gain the experience necessary to show to other employers that you have the skills necessary to work effectively. If you want to gain practical knowledge of working in a particular industry or business sector then you may want to also consider short work shadowing placements. Further information about work shadowing can be found here.
Volunteering can be undertaken in the local area, more wider afield or even in another country. If you wish to undertake voluntary work in the local area many positions are advertised through Bangor Prospects. To search for an advertised local placement click here. A list of local volunteer organisations you may want to contact to ask about volunteer placements can be found here.
