Welcome to the CNS Graduate School

The College is made up of three schools: The School of Biological Sciences, which offers postgraduate courses in biology, molecular biology, natural sciences and ecology; the School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography, which offers courses in environmental sciences, conservation and forestry; and the School of Ocean Sciences, which offers courses in marine biology, ocean sciences and marine geoscience.

An international research reputation

The College has an international research reputation in areas critical to society, such as research into the causes of cancer, the implications of climate change, the promotion of sustainable development and the conservation of biodiversity.

A range of research degree programmes

The College of Natural Sciences Graduate School offers a range of research degree programmes, including MRes, MPhil, and PhD, in a range of subjects in the biological sciences, ocean sciences, environmental and natural sciences and geography including:- Cell & Genome Biology, Molecular Ecology and Evolution, Plants, Soil & Ecosystems, Land-ocean systems science, Sustainable production & development, and Living with Environmental Change. The subjects offered reflect the wealth of expertise in the college and includes collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects. A listing of some current topics being offered can be found here but please note that this is not an exhaustive list and potential students are always welcome to discuss their own ideas within the general areas of research that we conduct.

The Graduate School

The Graduate School provides support for students by providing the finest environment for personal and academic development. We run our own quality assured taught and support courses as well as postgraduate conferences and welcome events. In addition postgraduates have access to courses from the University’s Graduate Skills Programme. The Graduate School also provides intellectual and social contact between students of different disciplines and from many different backgrounds and countries.
