Auditions and performance scholarships

Successful applicants to the School of Music are invited to attend a UCAS Open Day, during which they have the opportunity to audition for a Performance Scholarship worth £400. A number of these are awarded as an incentive for performers who demonstrate special promise. However, whether or not you receive a scholarship has no effect on our offer of a place on the Music course.

Scholarships are paid in the form of a remission on your first-year tuition fees, and are awarded on the condition that you register for the first-year module in Solo Performance (WXP1016 or WXC1016).

Applicants are invited to perform a musical excerpt of 3–5 minutes’ duration, which they feel is most appropriate to showcase their ability. Please note that applicants wishing to take modules in performance are usually expected to have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 (or equivalent) on their main instrument or voice. Some keyboard proficiency (such as Grade 5 or above in piano) is also desirable.

Please provide a copy of your music for the examiners, and another copy for the accompanist if you require piano accompaniment. Please let us know in advance if you will require any additional equipment, such as an amplifier or a CD player for a backing track.
