Postgraduate Loan (Wales)* – new for 2017
- The scheme will comprise a loan of £10,280 for students ordinarily resident in Wales.
- The loan applies to students undertaking full- or part-time courses leading to the award of a Master’s degree.
- The loan will be in place for those applying for courses starting after 1st August 2017

*Subject to appropriate legislation, it is anticipated that the scheme will comprise a loan of £10,280 for students ordinarily resident in Wales undertaking taught or research courses leading to the award of a Master’s degree. The course may be full or part time and based anywhere in the United Kingdom. Support will be available to students beginning courses on or after 1 August 2017. The full and final details of the proposed loan will be made public when draft regulations are laid with the National Assembly in the spring of 2017.
Postgraduate Loan (England)
For Master’s courses starting after August 2016, students from England will be able to apply for a postgraduate loan (PGL) of up to £10,000 as a contribution to the cost of study, with repayment on similar terms to the undergraduate student loan. Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan (Northern Ireland) 2017
Students from Northern Ireland can now apply for up to £5500 towards the cost of their postgraduate tuition fee. For full details please check the Student Finance NI website, or read the full DfE statement here.
